The Nazca Lines were thought to have been made by the Nazca Indians who lived in the area from between 300 B.C. to 800 A.D.  The reason archeologists think this is because they found pieces of Nazca pottery in the some of the lines.

The Nazca Indians were farmers who came before the Inca Indians.  They did not have any written language and there are no Nazca Indians living today.  But from the pictures on their pottery archeologists have learned a lot about the Nazca Indians, including how they farmed and that they worshipped deities.  They also paid special attention to their dead, placing them in graves wrapped in beautiful cloths.

They didn't bury their dead, but left them in areas so they could visit them.  Because of the cool temperature and lack of rain a lot of the clothing and even some of the hair of the dead have survived to this day.
