La Fecha - The Date

¿Qué fecha es hoy? - What is the date?
¿Qué frecha es hoy? -
What is today's date?
Es el uno de junio -
It is June first.
Es el dos de mayo -
It is May 2nd.

Importante: To say "What is the date" and "What is today's date", you use the same phrase.  When stating the date of the month in Spanish they do not say "Primero (first), "Segunda (second)", "Tercero (they)".  They say the normal number "uno (one)", "dos (two)" "tres (three)".

When stating a date, the English word "on" is expressed in Spanish by "el" in front of the date.

Pedro nació el cinco de mayo.  - Pedro was born on May 5th.

When stating the day of the week the English word "on" is expressed in Spanish by "el" or "los" in front of the day.

el lunes - on Monday
los lunes - on Mondays

Importante - the days of the week whose last letters is "s" do not change in the plural: el martes/los martes; el miércoles/los miércoles; el jueves/los jueves; el viernes/los viernes; el lunes/los lunes.  But: el sábado/los sabados; el domingo/los domingos.

When writing the date in Spanish you always put the day, then the month, then the year.

June 20, 2000 = veinte de junio del dos mil

therefore in Spanish this date would be written using only numbers as:

When stating the year in Spanish you must always use thousands and hundreds:

1986 = mil novecientos ochenta y seis

In Spanish you do not say the above year as "Nineteen Eighty Six"
