3) An indirect quotation

María decía que vendría mañana. - Mary was saying that she would come tomorrow.

Note: In the first sentence you use the preterite tense of "decir - to tell" because the action was completed in the past.   In the second sentence you use the imperfect indicative tense of "decir - to tell" because the completion of the action is not indicated.

5) Probability regarding the past

Note:  It can get a little confusing when you are using the word "si" to mean "if".  When you are using "if" you are generally constructing an "if - result" statement.  By this you mean that if something does exist  you will do something or if something had existed you would have done something.  For example you may say "If I have money I will go to the movies." - "Si tengo dinero, iré al cine."  In this case you would use the present tense of "tener - to have" and the future tense of "ir - to go".  But what if you say "If I had money I go to the movies." - "Si tuviera dinero, iría al cine."  In this case you would use the imperfect subjunctive tense of "tener - to have" and the conditional tense of "ir - to go".
